DonNUET overview

DonNUET is diversified higher education institution with fourth level of accreditation, which conducts educational activities for all degrees of higher education,
carries out fundamental and applied scientific research, is a leading scientific and methodological center that provides getting higher and postgraduate education for persons in accordance with their vocation, interests and abilities, promote to scientific knowledge, cultural and educational activities.

The University was established by the Council of People’s Commissars number 19/672, July 12, 1920.,  in obedience to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine  No-1890 ,-November 30, 1998., university was named Donetsk State University of Economy and Trade. In 2000 the University was named after Mikhailo Tugan-Baranovsky.

The decree of the President of Ukraine No. 169/2007 of 03.03.2007 gave the University the status of national.

The University is subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and functions in the government property.

Licensed volumes of the students admission is the following:

• Bachelors: 1385 students
• Masters: 525 students
• PhD: 10 students

According to the State Accreditation Committee resolution on July 7, 1998 (Minutes № 15) the university was accredited as a whole as a higher educational establishment of the fourth level. In 2008, in connection with the planned accreditation, the university confirmed this status (certificate series RD-IV № 056307 of 11.11.2009.).

Having recognized the achievements in students’ training and in connection with the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1970 the University was awarded the Diploma of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR.

For significant contributions to the development of Ukrainian higher education the University was awarded: by the International Personnel Academy with the Order “Poshana” (“Honor”) (2002), within the framework of the International Academic Rating “Golden Fortune” – with the Silver Stella and Diploma of Quality (2003), with the silver medal of “10 years of Independence of Ukraine”, with the Order of “Svyatiy Dmytro Solunskiy” (“Saint Demetrios of Solun”), with the bronze medal on the results of VIII International exhibition of educational establishments “Modern education-2005”.

Significant achievements of the University in the period of 2006-2015 in all spheres of work were noted:

• At the state level:with the Prime Minister of Ukraine acknowledgment “For significant contribution to the development of education and science in the field of economy and trade, for training highly qualified specialists for agriculture and food producing sector and high scientific achievements” (2010); with Diplomas of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine “For international cooperation in education and science” (2007); “For the development of material and technical base of the institution” (2007); with the silver medal of the XI International exhibition of educational establishments “Modern education – 2008”, with gold medals: International specialized exhibition “Education and Career –      Prospective University Student– 2010” in the nomination “Achievements in the employment of graduates of higher educational institution”, International exhibitions “Innovations in modern education” (2010, 2012, 2013) in the category “Innovations in cooperation of higher educational institutions with the labor market”; with the Diplomas of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for the results of the participation in the international exhibitions “Education and Career” (2006, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013) – for active career – guidance work among young people and high level professional training; “Innovation in Education of Ukraine” (2010, 2012) – for active implementation of the educational innovation in training process; “Modern educational institutions-2011”, “Modern Education in Ukraine” (2011) – for high creative achievements in improving the educational process content of the national education system, “Modern educational institutions-2013” – for contribution to the development of national education; with the Diplomas of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine “Leader of higher education in Ukraine – 2012” and “Leader of the national system of rating evaluation of higher educational institutions of Ukraine – 2012”.

Diploma of the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Ukraine with participation in the 6th all-Ukrainian competition of scientific works of  student young adults in the nomination “The Best Higher Educational Institution of Ukraine – 2012”;

• At the local level: the honorary award “140 Years of Donetsk” (2010), the Honorary Award of the Donetsk city council “For Merits to the City” (2010); Award of the Ukrainian Registered Cossacks “Silver Cossack Cross” (2010); Thanks of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Donetsk regional state administration “For a strong contribution to the development and popularization of physical culture and sports in the Donetsk region” (2010); Honorary Diploma of the Presidium of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine “For Merits in Assistance to the Development of the National Economy, Successful Implementation of Market Mechanisms, Effective Cooperation with Donetsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry” (2010); Diploma of the Forum of Leaders of Student Trade Union Organizations for winning the “Best Volunteer Project” nomination (2012).
  DonNUET won the Grand Prix “Leader of Higher Education of Ukraine” at the International Exhibition “Modern Educational Institutions – 2012”.

The DonNUET is awarded with the International sign “Socrates Gold Medal“ for outstanding scientific studies and their dissemination (London, UK, 2012).

According to the rating of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine the University was three times winner in the group of economic and humanitarian higher educational establishments (2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2007-2008).

In 2008 DonNUET gained membership in the European University Association and the Association of Economic Universities of Southeastern Europe and the Black Sea region, and in September 2010 it joined the Bologna process in the framework of signing the Great Charter of universities in the city of Bologna (Italy).

In 2013, DonNUET was awarded with the Diploma of Merit to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in commemoration of the 1025-th anniversary of the Christianization of Kyiv Rus’, and the Order of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Knyaz of Kyiv Yaroslav Mudryi.

Due to the complicated socio-political situation in the east of Ukraine and the continuation of the armed conflict in the city of Donetsk, according to the Decree of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine №1178 of 17 October 2014, DonNUET carries out its activities in the city of Kryvyi Rih.

According to the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 590 of May 30, 2016 “On Licensing of Educational Activities at the Third Educational and Scientific Level”, Mykhailo Tuhan-Baranovskyi Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade, since September 1, 2016, prepares applicants for higher education of the Philosophy Doctor  in the following scientific specialties:

• 076 “ Entrepreneurship, Commerce and Exchange Activities ”

Mykhailo Tuhan-Baranovskyi Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade named after publishes the scientific journal «Bulletin of DonNUET. Series “Economic Sciences” (since 1999), thematic collections of scientific works “Trade and market of Ukraine” (since 1994), “Equipment and technologies of food production” (since 1998), thematic collection of scientific works on social-philosophical problems “Intelligence. Personality. Civilization” (since 2003), registered with CrossRef International Bibliographic Reference System and included in such international science databases and information and analytical systems as Index Copernicus, Google Scholar, ResearchBib, Scientific Indexing Services, Ulrichsweb Global Serials Directory.

The University’s international activities are aimed at developing partnerships with higher education institutions in foreign countries, exporting educational services, joint educational and scientific projects and research, as well as enhancing academic exchange of students.

DonNUET is a member of the European Association of Universities.

DonNUET has experience in cooperation with international organizations. DonNUET participated in the international project “Supporting Innovation by Improving the Regulatory and Legislative Framework for Higher Education in Ukraine” (530158-TEMPUS-1-2012-1-SE-TEMPUS-SMHES) (2013-2015) jointly with Ukrainian and European universities, namely: National Metallurgical Academy, Odessa Law Academy, Ivano-Frankivsk National University of Oil and Gas, InstitutoPolitécnicodoPorto (Portugal), LundsUniversitet (Sweden), CoventryUniversity (United Kingdom), PolitechnikaGdańska (Poland).

DonNUET cooperated with:

German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH on projects:

1) “Supporting Transit Points for Internally Displaced Persons” (2015), under which DonNUET provided training and implementation of culinary skills and business design courses for internally displaced persons

2) “Development of logistical support for the displaced higher education institution” (2016), which provided furniture for lecture rooms, park benches and equipment for the assembly hall for the educational building (Kryvyi Rih)

3) “Development of social infrastructure in connection with the increase of internally displaced persons” – 15 000 000 UAH  (2017), within which measures were taken to reconstruct and overhaul the building of the DonNUET training building (Kryvyi Rih)

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under grant agreements:

1) “Strengthening of DonNUET in Kryvyi Rih” within the framework of the Ukrainian Initiative for Increasing Confidence 1060300 UAH (2015-2017) DonNUET received IT equipment, equipment for scientific and linguistic laboratories located in the training building (Kryvyi Rih)

2) “DonNUET Student Club Activities” Talented, Active, Young “(ALSO) in Kryvyi Rih” (2014). DonNUET received music equipment, equipment for the assembly hall.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, “Gender Grounds for Contemporary Conflicts” (2016), DonNUET received funding to purchase equipment and conduct a scientific event under the United Nations program against violence.

During 2019-2022 DonNUET implements the project “Enhancing the educational and scientific role of DonNUET as an internally displaced institution of higher education in the community of Donetsk region” under a grant agreement with the European Union worth 852 632 euros. According to the project plan, it is planned to update the educational programs in accordance with the needs of the community, to improve the DonNUET management system, to develop and implement new educational programs and to implement scientific projects. As part of the project, the Mariupol College of DonNUET and recreational center “Lisova”, located in Svyatogorsk, Donetsk region, will be renovated, office furniture and IT equipment will be purchased to equip computer classes, a business incubator, a digital language laboratory for the development of a foreign language laboratory. facilities, training and scientific laboratories, production canteens, assembly rooms, libraries, and sports equipment to equip the gym.

The training of foreigners and stateless persons is carried out in accordance with the Laws of Ukraine “On Higher Education”, “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons”, “On Foreign Ukrainians”, the Decrees of the President of Ukraine of March 25, 1994, No. 112 “On Measures for the Development of the Economic Cooperation of the regions of Ukraine with the adjoining border regions of the Russian Federation” and from June 3, 1994, No. 271″On Measures for the Development of Economic Cooperation of the Regions of Ukraine with the Adjacent Regions of the Republic of Belarus and the Administrative-Territorial units of the Republic of Moldova”, by the Decrees of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated September 11, 2013, No. 684 “Some issues of recruitment for training foreigners and stateless persons “, by the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine from November 1, 2013 № 1541 “Some issues of the organization of recruiting and training (internship) of foreigners and stateless persons”.

General Admission requirements

Reception of entrants to study at the University is carried out by the Admission Board of DonNUET in accordance with the Admission Rules, developed in accordance with the Conditions of admission to study at higher educational institutions of Ukraine, approved by the relevant Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Foreigners who receive state’s scholarships under international agreements, national programs, and other international commitments of Ukraine are admitted to the higher education institutions of Ukraine on the basis of the directions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Foreign Ukrainians who are legally resident in Ukraine and whose status is certified by a certificate of a foreign Ukrainian, when entering higher education institutions of Ukraine, have the same educational rights as citizens of Ukraine, with the exceptions established by the Constitution of Ukraine, laws of Ukraine or international agreements, the consent of which was provided by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Overseas Ukrainians, whose status is certified by a certificate of a foreign Ukrainian (except for persons permanently residing in Ukraine), may be enrolled in state-ordered training within the established quotas for foreigners for interviewing subjects covered by the Admission Rules.Foreigners and stateless persons can obtain higher education at the expense of individuals and legal entities, unless otherwise provided by international agreements of Ukraine, the consent to be bound by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, laws or agreements between higher educational establishments on international academic mobility.

When persons who have a document about foreign scientific degree admitting to studying the procedure for recognition and establishment of the equivalence of such a document, carried out in accordance with the Procedure for Recognition of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions of Higher Education Obtained by the Ministry’s Order Education and Science of Ukraine dated May 05, 2015, No. 504, registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on May 27, 2015, under No. 614/27059.

ECTS credits Assignment

DonNUET functions European Credit Transfer System in all. The amount of training time, the importance of disciplines in the curriculum and the amount of knowledge received in DonNUET are estimated in conventional units – credits. One credit corresponds to 30 academic hours of classroom work and idividual work on mastering the discipline. 60 ECTS credits correspond to the education load of the full academic year. To obtain the first (Bachelor) level of the higher education, a student must receive 240 credits. To obtain the second (Master’s) higher education level a student needs to receive 120 credits.
