Academic Board is a collegial organ which carries out its activities according to the Higher Education Act of Ukraine №1556-VIII of 1 July 2014 and the Regulations on Academic Board of Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade named after Mykhailo Tugan-Baranovsky and is set up to solve the most important issues of operating the University.

Academic Board is:
- determines the strategy and perspective directions of development of educational, scientific and innovative activity of the University
- develops and submits to the general meeting of the labor collective a draft of Statute of DonNUET, as well as the decision on amendments and additions thereto
- approves the financial plan and the annual financial report of the University
- defines the system and approves internal quality assurance procedures for higher education
- makes a decision on the distribution of own revenues in the territorial bodies of the central executive power body in the field of treasury servicing of budget funds, or in banking institutions
- makes decisions on the formation, reorganization and liquidation of structural units upon submission of the rector
- approves educational programs and curricula for each level of higher education and specialty
- makes decisions on the organization of the educational process, determines the terms of study at the appropriate levels
- approves the model and procedure for the production of documents on higher education, including joint and dual diplomas
- approves the main directions of research and innovation activity
- evaluates scientific and pedagogical activity of structural units
- assigns the academic titles of professor, associate professor and senior researcher and submits the relevant decisions for approval to the certification body of the central body of executive power in the field of education and science
- makes final decisions on the recognition of foreign documents on higher education, scientific degrees and academic titles during the recruitment of pedagogical, scientific, scientific-pedagogical and other employees, as well as during the enrollment of entrants for studying
- has the right to file a motion for the rector’s withdrawal on the grounds stipulated by the law, the charter of the University, the contract
- considers other issues of activity of the University in accordance with its Statute
